Paul, Client Relations Manager - Automotive, Mobility & Travel. Joined February 2024
What does a “day in the life” look like for you as a Client Relations Manager?
My day-to-day tasks range from outreach and client meetings to proposal development, price negotiations, and project management. Things can often be unpredictable, as clients tend to reach out with tight deadlines that need to be met. This calls for a structured and organised approach, especially when coordinating with our research experts. What I enjoy most are the regular client interactions and discussing their challenges and requests, and identifying the right market research methods to address them. The scope of our projects varies widely, from simple logo tests to complex psychographic target group analyses aimed at uncovering consumers' implicit motivations.
What kind of person thrives in this team?
Social beings that like to interact with their colleagues not just on a professional but also personal level. Depending on the location there are multiple activities colleagues like to do after work, such as Padel, gym classes or just going out for a couple of drinks - of course just if you feel like it.
What’s a misconception people have about your job?
The idea that sales is always pushy is a common misconception. In my role, especially at Appinio it’s much more about building understanding than persuasion. Our focus is on truly grasping the specific challenges our clients face in industries like automotive, travel, and mobility. Most of my time is spent actively listening, asking thoughtful questions, and exploring how we can provide value through quick, actionable consumer insights. It’s a highly consultative approach, centred on partnership rather than pressure.
Anke, Senior Client Relations Manager. Joined February 2024
Which teams or departments do you work most closely with, and how does that collaboration support your client relations work?
On a daily basis, I work closely with our internal research team. We operate as a tandem, managing client projects from start to finish, from the initial kick-off call all the way to sending out the NPS. This close collaboration means our clients have a dedicated point of contact throughout the entire study, which helps them feel supported and well taken care of. It also allows us to stay agile, quickly adapting and solving any challenges that may arise along the way.
What’s the biggest challenge, and how do you overcome it?
One of my biggest challenges is clearly communicating our value proposition and showing how we can truly make a difference in our clients’ work. Many of them are extremely pressed for time and already have established frameworks and processes, so understandably, it can be difficult to get a foot in the door. However, the rewarding part is that once we get to showcase our capabilities and commitment, clients are pleasantly surprised and happy to recommend us internally.
